CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND YOUTH PARTICIPATION TRAINING – AFSC SOMALIA PROGRAM At American Friends Service Committee


The objective of the workshop are as follows:

i) To help AFSC partner staff to understand what youth civic engagement and participation entails in a live conflict context

ii) To build Participant’s capacity to implement and promote meaningful youth participation and civic engagement.

iii) To equip AFSC program partners staff with the knowledge and tools for implementing youth participation and civic engagement activities.

iv) Identify illustrative activities, and promising practices that increase the effectiveness, scale, and sustainability of youth civic engagement, and youth participation.

v) To enable AFSC partner staff Understand how youth civic engagement and participation can be utilized to create a culture of peace and peaceful coexistence within targeted communities.

The consultant is expected to respond to the ToR with a technical and financial proposal describing how he / she will undertake the training.

Expected Deliverables.

i) Deliver a three (3) day effective training that enables AFSC program Partners staff to cascade their learnings.

ii) Provide the training participants with resource materials / package for reference.

iii) A detailed training report showcasing the training outputs, outcomes, and recommendations to AFSC on how to advance this aspect of programming.

Applicant Requirements

The consultant or team should have.

a) A bachelor’s degree in Political science, social work, Sociology, or any other relevant Social Science.

b) Minimum five years of hands-on experiences in conducting Civic engagement & youth participation trainings.

c) A good understanding of Youth marginalization and opportunities for civic engagement and participation in Somalia’s context.

d) Knowledge of Somalia’s socio-political and historical narratives that often drive marginalization and conflicts

e) Demonstrated understanding of Youth civic engagement and participation in conflict prone, fragile or post conflict areas.

f) Excellent oral and written English

g) Be flexible, responsive to changes and demands and open to feedback
