Consultancy: Creation of youth friendly tools and assets on ending child marriage & FGM in the Kenya and Tanzania Kuria communities At Girls Not Brides


Purpose

The Girls Not Brides Secretariat is looking for a consultant to develop youth friendly tools and assets on ending Child marriage and FGM to be used by youth activists in Africa in their advocacy work towards ending child marriage.

Background

Girls Not Brides is a global partnership of more than 1,500 civil society organisations committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfil their potential. Members are based throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Stronger together, Girls Not Brides members bring child marriage to global attention, build an understanding of what it will take to end child marriage and call for the laws, policies and programmes that will make a difference in the lives of millions of girls.

The Girls Not Brides Africa Team is based in Nairobi and works closely with country-based coalitions and partnerships to end child marriage. In partnership with Girls Not Brides coalitions in Kenya and Tanzania, we are implementing a cross-border project to accelerate progress to end child marriage and other harmful practices in Migori, Kenya and Tarime, Tanzania. This is being implemented through partnering and working with youth movements and civil society organisations to lead national and sub-national efforts in ending child marriage, through several initiatives including social media, media engagement and youth-led story telling.

For this reason, Girls Not Brides is looking for a consultant who will work closely with youth activists in co-creating and developing youth friendly assets that can be used by young people in their advocacy work at community, sub-national and national level.

Terms

The individual is expected to be contracted on a consultancy basis for a maximum of

15 days between January and February 2022. There may be a possibility of extension.

Scope of work

  • The consultant will be expected to read materials and publications available that could be useful in the development of youth friendly assets on ending child marriage, designing the outlook of the youth friendly tools and assets for either online use or in print form.
  • Submit the finalised youth friendly tools.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Professional or lived experience in a communications, creative or a related field.
  • Experience developing digital design publications for donor and programme needs that integrate existing organizational brands and design guidelines.
  • Creating a range of engaging visual formats for publications that are user-friendly templates for programme staff to format and be presented on web, in meetings and launches.
  • Substantial experience with INGO programme publications that reflect impact best practice and rights-based storytelling
  • Experience of leading visual design for sexual and reproductive health and rights projects or donor funded projects.
  • Experience in creative visual solutions to reflect needs and ambitions for a programme publication series within a global organisation.
  • Excellent time management skills able to meet tight deadlines.

Preferred

  • Spoken Kiswahili to a working level.
