Consultancy for Graphic Design At Aga Khan Foundation


1. Introduction

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private not-for-profit, non-denominational international development agencies, institutions, and programs that work primarily in the poorest parts of Africa and Asia to improve the quality of life of communities in remote and resource-poor areas. In East Africa, AKF works with partners to improve the quality of life by promoting and developing innovative solutions to the challenges of development in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Reflecting the complex and multi-faceted nature of development, AKF programs in the region encompasses education, health, Early Childhood Development, Rural Development, and Civil Society Strengthening. AKF is seeking a consultant to work as part of a diverse team of ECD, Education, adult learning, and Civil Society specialists to design, pilot, iterate, and complete a capacity development package for Civil Society Organisations to integrate learning through play into their Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programming.

2. Background

AKF is partnering with UNHCR to adapt AKF’s existing Values-Based Education (VBE) and playful pedagogies modules to pilot and measure the relevance and efficacy of these in the refugee context. The modules will enable teachers and schools to better support the socio-emotional needs of all children in their duty of care and apply play-based learning to effectively respond to the pandemic in the first instance and the effects of displacement as well as implement the CBC. As part of this, AKF committed to re-designing the materials to be more usable and applicable to the Kenyan and refugee context.

3. Consultant scope of work

It is expected for the consultant or organization to:

  • Collaborate with AKF to develop and ideate different design ideas to identify the design most fit for the purpose.
  • Finalize an agreed design and develop the workshop materials based on this, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
  • Ensure all designs for the workshop materials are contextually relevant, gender-sensitive and promote positive values and play

4. Key deliverables

  • Finalized design documents for the Organisational Diagnostic Assessment and ECCE Team Diagnostic Assessment workshops (including a Facilitator Guide, presentation slide deck, assessment framework, and scorecards for each workshop) in final and editable formats

5. Work Plan (Activity and Deadline)

  • Present design concepts to AKF for finalization of the design concept- 24th September 2021
  • Submit final draft design of all materials- 8th October 2021
  • Incorporate feedback and deliver all final documents- 22nd October 2021
