Consultant – Economic Advisor at International Potato Center (CIP)

I. Background

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Advisor on a consultancy basis to support seed system and seed storage advisor in Nigeria. Advisor will design and implement a primary survey in project target regions of Nigeria to understand how and to what extent the seed sytem developed by several private companies or supported by donors have contributed and are still contributing to maintaining seed value chains functional and securing the livelihoods of associated value chain actors in Nigeria.

II. Objective

  • Review the survey questions and design the farmer’s group discussion and key informant interviews.
  • Define sample size and train the enumerators.
  • Design the data entry template.
  • Check data and analyze data with robust statistical tools.
  • Interpretate results.
  • Write a situation analysis report based on the results of survey data.

III. Deliverables

  • Refine situation analysis questionnaire, define sample size and train the enumerators.
  • Develop data entry template, analyze data and interpret results.
  • Write a complete report with introduction, objectives, materials and methods, results, discussion, and conclusion.

IV. Selection Criteria

  • PhD in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Development Economics or related field.
  • At least 8 years; experience working with CGIAR or advanced research organizations in similar roles.
  • Excellent skills on handling STATA, ODK, CTO Survey and Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with a focus on details.
  • Knowledge in vegetatively propagated seed system and seed storage.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with a focus on details.
  • Advanced level of MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English is required.

V. Time frame

  • Consultancy contract will be for 35 days.

Conditions: This is a national consultancy position limited to Kenya nationals and permit residents only.
