Consultant VII – Consultant Gender At International Medical Corps

Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide. By offering training and healthcare to local populations and medical assistance to people at high risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated healthcare systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance

Scope of Work (SOW)

The Consultant will initially speak with selected IMC staff to understand regional differences in gender issues, staff understanding of the integration of gender into programming, and considerations for an IMC-specific gender analysis tool. The consultant will also review illustrative examples of gender analyses and assessments produced by various IMC country offices to identify strengths and weaknesses. The Consultant will produce a list of questions to be asked during these interviews and a summary report of the interviews and desk review that will inform the development of the deliverables.

Specifically, the Consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Report summarizing the interviews with IMC staff
  • Develop a standardized toolkit for gender analysis in line with major donors (GAC, FCDO, ECHO, BHA) requirements to be used in IMC country missions globally
  • Provide 4 remote training sessions on how to conduct a gender analysis using the standardized toolkit. The training should include practical examples and participatory scenarios.
  • Provide a written guidance note on how to conduct a gender analysis and examples of the information that should be included in a gender analysis report and in proposals and concept notes
  • Provide a debriefing with IMC focal points on the assignment, including recommendations for embedding quality gender analyses into IMC systems

Deliverables:

  1. Report summarizing the interviews with IMC staff
  2. Standardized gender analysis toolkit
  3. Four separate remote training sessions, one for each operational region (East, Middle East, and West platforms) and one for the Technical Unit and MEAL Advisors
  4. A written Guidance Note (maximum 15 pages excluding annexes) on conducting a gender analysis using the tool and examples of what information should be included in a gender analysis report and in concept notes and proposals
