Objectives
In close collaboration with the Operations Department, the Flying IT Field Referent is responsible for ensuring the proper technical functioning of the field infrastructure and applications in terms of availability, reliability and security. They are in contact with the IS officer or the Logistician (technical correspondent in the field) as technical referent and work in coordination with the IT department based at headquarters. The Flying IT Field Referent is also responsible for providing local support to missions by installing, maintaining and auditing the missions’ IT systems. They ensure the implementation of procedures and recommendations created by the IT department based at headquarters to maintain quality support to the missions with regular visits.
Main responsibilities / Activities
- Supervises the technical functioning of the IT systems and makes recommendations.
- Acts as a technical referent for field IT support managers (IS officers or logisticians) and provide second and third level support to IS Officers or logisticians on missions.
- Ensures the deployment of hardware and software equipment for the proper functioning of the IT systems when travelling on mission or from headquarters.
- Ensures that technical information and best practices between headquarters and the field are shared, distributed and applied.
- Analyzes and provides recommendations on the IS Officer’s activity and field visit reports, follow up on their requests for changes and improvements to existing facilities, and ensure the proper functioning of the system and network infrastructures while optimizing the management of the IT equipment (servers, active network equipment, clients and peripherals).
- Prepares user workstations to MSF-WaCA standards (hardware & software), including Windows images, application packaging, functional and security update packages.
- Monitors the maintenance of IT hardware (system/network infrastructure, client workstations and peripherals), conduct regular audits of the infrastructure and IT equipment of the missions, follow-up on actions to be taken by the IS officer or the logisticians on site,
- Participates in the recruitment and training of IS officers, participate in the technical training of field logisticians,
- Participates in defining policies, standards and procedures in agreement with the rest of the IT department, ensure dissemination and application of policies and procedures to relevant people, Supervise the technical functioning of the IT systems and make recommendations.
- Participates in relevant field operations meetings and contributes with addressing concerns around Information and Communication Technologies.
Job Profile
Education / Qualification / Pre-requisites
- Degree in Information Technology or equivalent
- CCNA or NSE 4 is an advantage
- ITIL certification is an advantage
- Project Management certifications like PRINCE/PMP is an advantage
Competencies Skills
- Good knowledge of system and network administration, desktops and Microsoft on-premises and Cloud environment.
- M365, Azure, Exchange, Intune, SharePoint, Teams, Active Directory, Hyper-V, Fortinet network devices, routing and switching, Windows Server 2019, Windows 10, Linux skills appreciated, experience in WIFI network deployment appreciated, VSAT experience appreciated, scripting experience appreciated
- Knowledge of telecommunication infrastructures (HF/VHF radio, VoIP, VSAT, Bgan ….) would be a plus
- Ability to travel, Availability, Service orientation, Organisational skills, Methodical, Analytical, Team player, Autonomous, Ability to take decisions quickly, Mobility, Adaptation to different cultures, Listening and teaching skill.
Professional experience required
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an IT position (support, system administrator, training…)
- Experience in the deployment or support of business solutions.
- Experience in an international environment.
- Experience in project management methodology.
- MSF field experience is an advantage
Languages Skills
- Fluency in French or English and capable of communicating professionally in the other
(According to the coordination responsibilities of the position in both French and English-speaking countries, the hired person must be able to easily communicate in both languages.)
