Project Description:
The regional program “Employment and skills for development (E4D)” is a multi-partner initiative financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), EU, KOICA; Shell, Sasol, Rio Tinto, Quoniam and Tullow Oil (and until 2020 also DFID). It is implemented by GIZ and operates in six African countries: Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, and Uganda.
The project aims at improving the employment and economic situation of job seekers in cooperation with the public and private sector in Kenya, with a special focus on women and youth (overall objective). The core rationale is that building the capacities of jobseekers and supporting their transition into the labor market will contribute to an improved employment and economic situation of the target group.
Expected Outputs are:
Ø Output 1: Vocational training offers are labor-market-oriented
Ø Output 2: The preconditions for a successful transition from training to jobs are improved
Ø Output 3: Public-private cooperation related to employment promotion is improved
Reporting to the International Team Leader based in Nairobi County.
Tasks of each of the three technical advisors will be;
• Assisting the Team Leader in planning and implementing all project activities and strategies in the respective vocational training institutes i.e., Nyeri National Polytechnic, Meru National Polytechnic, and the Technical University of Mombasa
• Responsible for achieving the project indicators in Meru County, Nyeri county, and Mombasa County
• Analyzing data as required (mobilization, number of trainees enrolled, trainee attrition, companies’ engagement, and trainee internship placement)
• Conducting administrative duties such as setting up meetings and workshops that appertain to the project
• Assisting in tracking and reporting project progress in their respective duty stations
• Participates in monitoring visits to the project site
• Performing other duties assigned by the Team Leader in an orderly and efficient manner
Requirements
• Education/training: University qualification (bachelor’s) in project management, business administration or social sciences;
• Languages: Knowledge of English, C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and fluent in Swahili (Full Professional Proficiency – Ability to speak fluently);
• General professional experience: 8 years of relevant professional experience in TVET and employment promotion;
• Specific professional experience: 5 years of relevant professional experience in private sector engagement, trainee mobilization (with a specific focus on women mobilization), organization of job fairs, and financial management of subsidies;
• Leadership/Management experience: 5 years of relevant professional experience in project management;
• Regional experience: 5 years of work experience in Kenya;
• Development cooperation (DC) experience: 3 years of experience working on DC projects;
