BACKGROUND
The Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) is a not-for-profit organization based in Victoria, Canada. The AGC is dedicated to improving the opportunities, environment, and health of the millions of people involved in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) in the developing world. Led by a multidisciplinary team of experts, the AGC is one of the few agencies in the world that has the sustainable development of the ASGM sector as its core mission.

MAIN DUTIES AND EXPECTED OUTPUTS/OUTCOMES
The technologist/engineer is a hard-working, creative thinker with a passion for the hands-on approach. Working under the supervision of the National Project Coordinator and in tandem with the other National and International Technologists, this role focuses on bringing the technical elements of mercury-free gold processing to artisanal and small-scale mining sites in country. The candidate will work with the International Technologists to customize project design, technology implementation, system planning and optimization, training, permitting, technical and project reporting, and other related subjects. The candidate will be mainly working in the field and in collaboration with the mining communities and local authorities, thus exposed to extended field work, and a diversity of conditions and mining needs and practices.
REPORTING
Regular communication will take place between the National Technologist/Engineer and National Project Coordinator and International Technologists, and, if needed, other AGC staff to ensure that the activities are undertaken in a satisfactory, timely and cost-effective manner.
The National Technologist/Engineer will be also in charge of drafting the technical elements of various project reports, which will be reviewed by AGC.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s in mining or Mineral Process Engineering (at minimum)
- Willing to be based in Dano with frequent travels to Ouagadougou
- Experience in the planning, implementation, and execution of mining engineering projects
- Experience with ASGM communities
- Proven hands-on abilities
- Able to demonstrate that they can operate successfully working extensively in the field
- Good scientific and analytical understanding of mineral processing and effective optimization techniques
- Some interest in international development and working with communities in different cultural and economic settings
- Excellent written communications skills in French, Dioula, Dagara and Moore
- Able to communicate effectively, as well as present project results clearly
- Self-motivated, able to prioritize, and work with minimal guidance
- Strong commitment to and experience in developing effective relationships with key stakeholders and diverse teams
- Strong problem-solving and creative analytical thinking skills
LANGUAGE
Fluency in written and spoken French is required. Knowledge of local languages as well as English is an asset.
