Protection Monitor At INTERSOS

General purpose of the position

Responsible for daily monitoring in the project locations, and undertaking community mobilization and sensitization/awareness-raising. Carrying out data collections through FGDs, KIIs and community/Household surveys. Also, carrying out vulnerability assessments and documentation for referrals and follow up.

Tasks and Main Responsibilities

  • Regularly carry out protection monitoring among affected population;
  • Works closely with community volunteers to carry out community engagement and awareness raising/sensitization on protection topics (including GBV prevention and response, human rights, child protection, etc.);
  • Operates complaint and feedback meachism through protection help desk and provide feedback accordingly;
  • Attends to querries among new arrivals and facilitate referrals as per the service map of the reception centre;
  • Updates INTERSOS risk matrix regularly through collecting qualitative and quantitative data on protection risks.
  • Carries out Focus Group Discussions and conduct monthly safety mapping exercises among the affected population to contribute to production of PIM products and other protection reports;
  • Documents protection incidents among new arrivals upon self-referral or identification through protection monitoring and facilitate appropriate referrals;
  • Carries out collection of information/data about vulnerability, protection needs and concerns of the targeted population. Also, Document cases in need of Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) and facilitate provision of IPA in a timely manner;
  • Conducts screening and pre-registration of family separation cases for active referral to and follow up with FTR agencies;
  • Manages an open caseload as per INTERSOS standards and conducts intake interviews with individuals and develops a tailored care plan with the client, based on the needs identified during assessment sessions;
  • Supports capacity building activities targeted to community and other stakeholders (including consortium and staff from other service providers operating in the project locations);
  • Ensures progress on individual cases are documented in the action plan highlighting any significant change in the client’s psychosocial well-being and overall situation in a timely manner;
  • Provides detailed, accurate and timely weekly update on development to supervisor on activities and challenges.
  • Ensures constant communication with the community while respecting culture and traditions to identify potential problems affecting them and send findings and recommendations to supervisor;
  • Attends and supports in organizing regular meetings and participate in needs assessments in collaboration with other agencies and actors providing protection services in the projection locations;
  • Carries out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including Child Protection and PSEA policy;
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Position Requirements

Professional requirements

  • University degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Law, etc…)
  • Minimum 2-year relevant work experience with an INGO, NGOs and/or related local authorities in Nigeria.

Personal requirements

  • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, etc…)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability and motivation to work well with local authorities, local leaders and the local community.
  • Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context.
