Mission and objectives

UNFPAs mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. The agency works to achieve three transformative goals which are: zero preventable maternal deaths, zero unmet need for family planning and zero sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices.

Ghana’s private sector remains untapped. As a means to accelerate the achievement of UNFPAs transformative results, there is an urgent need to bring on board new and emerging donors. UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results. We need volunteers who are exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results. The resource mobilisation volunteer will assist in exploring the private sector to mobilise resources to support the country office programmes.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Resource Mobilisation Office, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Map out private sector entities (both national and international) whose corporate social responsibilities are in line with UNFPA mandate areas and segment them into organizations that can provide financial resources or in-kind support. 2. Assess potential donors and compile relevant information on donor strategies such as the donor priority sectors and thematic areas, key decision makers, and provide analysis on alignment with UNFPA’s transformative results areas. 3. Identify emerging donors for blended financing for UNFPA programmes in the areas of ending gender –based violence and harmful practices and empowering young people with focus on adolescent girls. 4. Support the officer in charge of resource mobilization to prepare written materials such as concept notes, proposals, meeting briefs etc. to expedite results on mobilizing resources 5. Work with the strategic partnership officer to leverage existing partnership with private sector partners in the agency’s database. 6. Identify other innovative, practicable and alternative means to mobilizing resources aside the traditional ways. 7. Produce a report on the resource mobilization landscape of the country office with practical recommendations on how to maintain engagement with key donors at the end of the internship.
