Senior Communications Manager At Lifebox Foundation

Contract: Initial 12-month fixed term contract on a consultancy basis

Lifebox is a global non-profit that saves lives through safer surgery and anesthesia. Lifebox works to increase anesthesia safety, reduce surgical infection rates, and strengthen operating room teamwork through tools, training, and partnerships. Since its founding in 2011, Lifebox has worked in over 116 countries and trained more than 11,000 healthcare providers.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role requires an experienced and dynamic professional responsible for executing Lifebox’s communications strategy in the East Africa region. The Senior Communications Manager will lead on raising the visibility of Lifebox among key constituencies in East and Southern Africa and globally, as well as playing an integral role in the international Lifebox communications team – helping to shape the vision and strategy of Lifebox’s global communications strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced and growing international non-profit. This role is part of the global Lifebox communications team and reports directly to the Director of Communications and Marketing. Opportunities for regional and international travel.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing on the delivery of the Lifebox global communications strategy that supports the organization’s objectives;
  • Develop and direct creative content for key Lifebox platforms and targeted audiences;
  • Cultivate media relations in the East and Southern Africa region, proactively pitch stories, and respond to media requests to increase the visibility of Lifebox among key target audiences and the general public in support of Lifebox’s work and objectives;
  • Develop and oversee Lifebox presence at key professional conferences and events, both online and in-person) across the East and Southern Africa region;
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders in the region to facilitate strategic communications
  • Work closely with the global Lifebox team to communicate consistent and effective Lifebox messages, including through media, print, and online channels;
  • Work closely with Lifebox team members to disseminate information to internal constituencies for effective internal communications;
  • Manage relevant vendor relations in accordance with Lifebox policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
  • 3-5+ years of communications experience in a non-profit, public relations, media, or other relevant organization;
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills in English (other relevant languages a plus);
  • Proven ability to engage high-level stakeholders to achieve objectives;
  • Comfortable communicating medical issues (knowledge of surgery and anesthesia a plus) and data-driven analyses;
  • Experience in all aspects of editorial content creation and dissemination, including writing, editing, and use of social and digital media;
  • Familiarity with regional and international news media, including cultivating relationships, maintaining contact lists, and successfully pitching stories;
