Introduction

Our work, is grounded in research and helps people take action on their health: making informed decisions, inspiring discussion, increasing understanding, recognising and reflecting on what prevents change and building new skills and confidence. We work closely with partner organisations, key audience groups and government ministries and across the communication platforms most likely to reach and engage our audiences.
Objective
BBC Media Action is an implementing partner of the SHOMOTA project (The Strengthening Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in WASH in Bangladesh) led by World Vision (WV). The overall aim of this assignment is to advance our thinking around Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) best practice and support the development of a rural WASH SBCC Approach for future implementation of WASH related projects in Bangladesh.
This work will be informed by a literature review, existing research from BBC Media Action and others, and key informant interviews (internal and external), discussions and brainstorms.
Outputs
In consultation with the Senior Advisor on Health and Gender, the WASH SBCC Specialist will deliver:
· Review of existing resources and key informant interviews The WASH SBCC Specialist will review relevant literature, our existing approach on SBCC and WASH, SHOMOTA project documents and past work and evidence, with a focus on rural Bangladesh and other low-and-middle-income contexts. The Specialist will identify a list of key people for interview (internal and external) who can contribute thinking on the direction of BBC Media Action’s work in this area. The specialist will conduct interviews following professional standards and protocols, capturing notes and recordings as relevant.
· An internal briefing document Based on the review of resources and interviews described above, and ongoing internal consultations and discussions, the Specialist will develop an internal briefing document (format to be agreed) that will likely include the following, to be agreed with the Senior Advisor on Health and Gender:
o An updated description of how we understand the concept and practice of WASH SBCC overall and specifically in rural Bangladesh.
o An overarching theory of change for BBC Media Action’s work in Bangladesh, including indicative outputs, outcomes, and impacts, indicating how media and communication can influence and increase healthier WASH norms and behaviours.
- Stakeholder workshop and development of the WASH SBBC Approach
Guided by the internal briefing document, the Specialist will work with the Senior Advisor on Health and Gender to facilitate a design workshop with the project team and stakeholders to develop the WASH SBCC Approach. The approach and format to be agreed with the Senior Advisor on Health and Gender.
